We have recently started our 20th delivery route and begun using an internet-based real-time GPS tracking service, further strengthening our Transport & Logistics team as a strategic service asset, crucial to our proposition as London's premier wholesale artisan bakery.
If you had asked Richard, our Transport & Logistics Manager, if he ever thought it was possible to need 20 routes delivering bread all over the Greater London metro area, he probably would have laughed you out of the bakery. It's not that Richard has a sense of humour (no offence mate!), he just figured that there were not enough people who really wanted great bread. But this year we started our 20th route, covering the Guildford area, and he is already planning a new route to deliver to Hertfordshire and beyond.
As The Bread Factory has grown, things have of course had to change. Whilst we still have all five of our original drivers, we have now added a further 18, including 3 relief drivers and checking specialists, to create a major delivery operation.
Furthermore, in order to keep track of each driver and improve our customer service, we have also recently installed a real-time GPS system that lets us know where every one of our drivers is at all times so we can help out if there is a special need by one of our customers. The GPS system also helps us to manage our petrol use and build optimal routes.
Richard is now firmly rooted in the 21st Century and is busy planning our next 20 routes!
